Heeey... okay, it's been a while since I last touched the journals, ha ha. :) Just recently my good DA friend Juhupainting gave me some great encouragement to get back on Permanoobs.  So I've created this new sketchbook.  Thanks, brother!! :D Oh, and I REFUSE to let this one get bumped off the front page of the sketchbook forum.

It's great, keeps me drawing. XD

I'm really getting into the community there; everyone seems nice and offers great advice and encouragement.  If any of you guys are on Permanoobs or decide to join and make a sketchbook, give me a link and I promise I'll go check out your stuff!

Recently I came across a Noah Bradley video (yeah, a two hour video- I watched it while I was doing something else, ha ha) that talked about some different forms of drawing study for accurate seeing.  One of the things was making studies of these cool master drawings called Bargue drawings- basically, they are a series of plates of drawings of casts and statues, with both simplified block-ins and the fully rendered drawings shown.  I found high-quality scans of some of these plates, and started studying from them.

I've never done any kind of master study before.  It seems to help for working on accuracy, and also for seeing how the artist simplified the subject matter before him so that you can learn to simplify complex subjects yourself.  These will be posted on my sketchbook as I complete them.  I don't know how many I will do or if I am going to do the whole course eventually- we'll see.

If anyone reading this has done Bargue drawings or has any thoughts on this I'd love to hear them.  How have you guys studied to learn to draw more accurately? :)

That's it for now.  Hope you all are well!  Stay frosty. :D

Ha ha, I got sick of having no face. :D This is a Chandra X-ray Observatory false-color x-ray image of SgrA* (Sagittarius A-Star, the black hole theorized to be lurking at the center of our Milky Way) to go with my username- looks pretty cool, I think.  I would like to make an avatar from an image I made myself (maybe my own interpretation of the black hole?) sometime but for now I'm happy with this.

It is always a pleasure, thanks for sharing your horrifying, gross, occasionally slimy and always funny drawings!

I forgot to congratulate you on your birthday.
This is inexcusable on my part.

But better late than never.
Happy birthday to you!!!
and forgive me=))
I am glad that I have such a friend.
Without your comments, I would be very boring on this website.

No problem, Antoly, and thanks! :) I don't mind, sometimes I find it hard to keep track of birthdays here as well.

I know how you feel, without my friends here on DA I don't know if I would have had the courage to pursue art... and I am happy to be able to be a friend to others as well.
So let's both keep up our art study and see how far we can get in 2014!! :D

Thanks, Wayne!! :) I was like "Damn, two decades already?", maybe there is truth in the cosmologists' joke about cosmic redshift being due to time speeding up!  I better get back to work then, ha ha...
